Frequently Asked Questions

  • Does acupuncture hurt?

Answer is: You might be surprised to hear that 95% of the needles I insert are never felt! Typically you can fit up to 36 acupuncture needles into the tip of the average hypodermic needle. With the special hand techniques that I was taught in my four years of Acupuncture School earning my Master’s degree in Acupuncture you often don’t even realize a needle has been inserted.
  • How do the needles work?

Answer is: Dysfunction in the body is often caused by stagnant or stale blood that gets stuck in different areas of the body that are difficult for the body to clean up. The needles stimulate the circulatory system as well as the lymphatic system which helps the body bring fresh oxygenated blood to the area as well as sending white blood cells to clean up the mess and thusly restoring the proper flow of bodily fluids and restoring functionality.
  • How many treatments does a person typically need?

Answer is: While every patient is different, we will usually have a good handle on things in the first three to five treatments. Now this all depends how long the issue has been troubling the patient. If it is a chronic issue that has been around for 20 years or so it may take up to ten treatments, but then again it very well could be fewer.

Basically acupuncture helps you remember what it is like to feel good in your body. Once you are able to regain this perspective you become your own monitor and advocate. When you feel things starting to slip back to old uncomfortable ways it is time to come in for a tune up or two. This is often only a few times a year or once every couple months depending on the issue and how good you are at taking care of yourself through life style and personal choices.

  • Does insurance cover acupuncture?

Answer is: More and more insurance providers are covering acupuncture every day. While I do not take insurance at this time I have numerous patients whom I fill out the needed insurance documentation which they then submit to their provider and then receive reimbursement for the services they paid me for.
  • What issues can acupuncture treat?

Answer is: Acupuncture can treat pretty much anything with varying amounts of efficacy. The Acupuncture style that I use mainly focusses on restoring the bodies ability to heal and cure itself.

While some cases are more difficult than others, the fact is that the human body is designed to be able to take care of itself as long as we are living a lifestyle that doesn’t hinder this function. Once the bodies system are at optimal functionality it is then able to self regulate and correct issues as they arise. However tune ups may still be needed as most none of us are angels and we all like to live our sometimes less than pure lives in the society which we are in.
